REVIEW: A joyful and thoughtful songwriter, Matthew brings an audience energetic melodies with folk-pop flair, and a uniquely high tenor vocal delivery. A beautiful sounding violin accompaniment by Erika Kapin was the cherry on the Sunday.

“On Friday night, I was handed a CD I had long wanted to get my hands on, Matthew Brookshire's debut album, "8 songs," available on CD Baby, a very cool site for independent musicians. It did not disappoint, except in one respect—I wanted more than 8 songs. The songs are acoustic and folksy, but also funny and ironic at times. It is the kind of music that I want to listen to enough so that I can learn the words, because the stories are so good. I'd rather not, but if pressed to compare him to other singer/songwriters I would say he’s most like Tracy Chapman and Duncan Sheik."

Selected press about the music Matthew contributed to PALINDROMES, directed by Todd Solondz:
“Half ’NSync, half Polyphonic Spree—spirited songs with lyrics like ‘Everybody has a right to be born.’ This Solondz tableau isn’t designed to induce snickers—the music is catchy and the kids are charming, no matter what you think of their ‘message.’”
--New York Magazine
“…and when we see them perform the catchy-creepy teen-pop number ‘This Is the Way (That Jesus Made Us),’ the layers of irony are head-spinning.”
--Entertainment Weekly
“When he shows us those handicapped Christian kids singing and boogying away, you’re not sure whether to laugh, be outraged, or burst into tears.”
--Vogue
“It might be the single most disturbing scene I’ve seen in a movie in several years.”
